THOMPSON, Conn. (WPRI) – A Connecticut man faces multiple charges for trespassing, burglary and finding drugs Thursday morning, police said.

Connecticut State Police responded to a home on Brandy Hill Road in Thompson, Connecticut around 11:40 a.m. after receiving reports of a man walking through the backyards of private residences.

Upon their arrival, police were also informed that the man had reportedly fled from neighbors and possibly entered a home through a basement window.

After a search with sniffer dogs, a man later identified as 36-year-old Christopher George Sargent was found in a small room behind a washing machine in the basement, police said. Police said he was in possession of crack cocaine.

Sargent was arrested for third-degree burglary, resisting an officer and possession of a controlled substance.

In addition, officers learned that Sargent had an outstanding warrant for his arrest stemming from an incident in May in Putnam. He is charged with first-degree trespassing, sixth-degree theft and second-degree breach of peace.

Sargent was released on $7,500 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 18.
