Several cars burn as train derailment sparks major fire in Carrington, North Dakota

Carrington Fire Department rushed to the scene after a train derailed in Dakota, causing chaos as dozens of train cars caught fire and the blaze spread across the entire track.

Several train cars are ablaze after a train derailed and caused chaos 10 miles southeast of Carrington, North Dakota.

The Carrington Fire Department said the fire started around 3:45 a.m. and is still burning, Valley News Live reports. Radio traffic also indicated the presence of a hazardous materials team on the scene. One witness estimated that about 30 cars were ablaze.




Pictures from the scene of the accident show a fire spreading across the tracks.

A witness described the scene in a post on X as follows: “Estimated to be around 30 cars, possibly oil, AMS and Nh3. The fire whistle sounds when the cars drive off!”

They added: “A few more pictures. It looks like the cars are over a sewer. It rained nearly three inches in places yesterday afternoon.”

A video from the scene of the accident showed a thick, black column of smoke rising from the burning wreckage.
