More thunderstorms and rain in the Philadelphia area, heat index rises above 100

EAST PA – The heat index will rise above 100 degrees across the greater Philadelphia area over the weekend as another wave of severe storms hits the region, meteorologists said.

Isolated thunderstorms may arrive Friday evening, most likely between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m.

“Some cases” of damaging winds and flooding are possible in areas directly affected by thunderstorms, but areas further west and north of Philadelphia's five counties are more likely to experience severe impacts, the National Weather Service said.

Another wave of showers will arrive before 11am Saturday morning, and then there will be a brief window of possible thunderstorms between 11am and 2pm. Rain may then continue throughout the rest of the day, with the chance continuing through Saturday night before moving out on Sunday.

However, heat will be widespread over the next few days. Temperatures of around 35 degrees and a heat index of 40 degrees are forecast for Friday and Saturday.
