Three people from the home at 37700 Charlotte Drive were able to escape along with their pets before the flames engulfed the building. Firefighters battled the fire for several hours, but the home was a total loss.

Less than an hour later, at approximately 1:45 p.m., officials and several local fire departments responded to another fire in the unincorporated community of Deerfield.

When first responders arrived, they found the roof of a row house in the 300 block of Goshawk Lane on fire.

Several residents had already left the terraced house before it went up in flames. The terraced house was badly damaged.

Before both fires, people had set off explosive fireworks nearby in the early evening. No one was injured in the fires.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office issued a reminder Friday morning pointing out that most fireworks displays are not legal in Illinois and urging residents to leave fireworks to professional fireworks operators who have obtained the necessary permits and approved their safety plans.
