TALKEETNA, Alaska – Fire crews on the Montana Creek Fire, 16 miles south of Talkeetna, continue to patrol the perimeter and continue to push deeper into the darkness. Crews are trying to minimize hazards, but are always aware that moisture can create slippery conditions and the forecast southerly winds can cause tipping. The goal is 100 percent damage control. Crews will also remain on call to provide initial attack and assist with new incidents.

The “set” status imposed on residents along the Leroy Davie Road and Montana Creek Road corridors has been lifted.

The fire is located in a critical conservation area on the wilderness-urban border, requiring multi-agency response. 106 personnel were assigned to the incident, including BIA, BLM, State and USFS personnel.

The Parks Highway remains open. The public traveling on the Parks Highway will continue to be impacted by a deployment of ground crews assisting with fire suppression efforts between mile markers 94-100. The public is asked to remain alert and slow down near the fire area as crews continue fire suppression efforts throughout the day.
