Governor Maura Healey called President Joe Biden's political situation “unsalvageable” earlier this week after his disastrous performance in a debate last month that has since terrified Democrats across the country, the New York Times reported Thursday.

The Times reported that Healey presented her assessment of Biden's position to White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, which she later shared with her fellow governors in a conference call on Monday.

This harsh criticism breaks with the words of other Democratic politicians at the state level and comes from a person who is considered a key supporter of Biden's re-election campaign.

A spokesman for the Healey campaign did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment Thursday and Friday.

The remark reportedly came days before Healey and other governors traveled to Washington on Wednesday to meet with Biden at the White House. The trip was touted as a way to allay fears that the president would not be able to defeat former President Donald Trump in November.

Many governors left the meeting and made statements supporting Biden.
