The Rutgers football team’s 2025 recruiting class is becoming increasingly historic.

Kamar Archie, a Trenton native and rising senior at the Hun School, announced Friday on X that he has committed to Rutgers, giving the Scarlet Knights their fourth four-star commitment for the class of 2025, where Rutgers is ranked No. 11 nationally, according to Rivals.

Archie, who is listed on Rivals as a 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker, chose Rutgers over several big teams like Georgia, Michigan and Clemson.

Archie began his high school career in 2020 at Ewing High, where Rutgers was the first school to offer him a scholarship in March 2021 before transferring to Hun and reclassifying through 2025.

Archie is the second-ranked junior in NJ.com's Top 50 and is described by NJ.com's Todderick Hunt as “New Jersey's best college prep defensive lineman.”

With 29 commitments, Rutgers hasn't had such a strong recruiting class since it was ranked 24th by Rivals in 2012, the same year head coach Greg Schiano left the school during his first tenure as a head coach in the NFL.

Schiano is now entering his fifth season back in Piscataway. The team is coming off a 7-6 season, including its first bowl game appearance (and win) since 2014.

“Seeing what they're doing with the program and the culture really opened my eyes to what this place is going to be and how special it is. It's true,” Archie told NJ.com on Friday. “They were in my top three. I always thought they were a place where I could fit in and do something special, but this week I actually had this gut feeling. I've been waiting for this and I didn't want to miss it. I really had to sit down and think about all of my visits, think about the culture, think about the academic part as well, and my decision was made.”
