Idaho Humane Society waives pet repossession fees through July 7

The animal welfare association is waiving the return fees for all animals arriving between July 2 and 7 until Sunday.

BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Humane Society is waiving repossession fees through Sunday, July 7, to help owners find their lost pets.

The Fourth of July can be a stressful time for pets, leading to an increase in runaways during the week of the holiday. The Idaho Humane Society will be open Friday, July 5, to help people and pets reunite or to be a safe place where people can drop off found strays.

For animals arriving between July 2 and 7, fees will be waived until Sunday.

The Idaho Humane Society reminds pet owners that even with the best planning, accidents can happen. They ask that pet identification tags have the most current information and are attached to a well-fitting collar. They also remind owners to update their pet's microchip information if they have moved or changed their phone numbers.

It is best to keep pets confined to a safe area in the house when the fireworks start. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommends closing all windows, pulling down blinds, turning on the radio or television, and giving your pet a special treat. These measures can help distract your pet from the fireworks outside.
