“It's Showtime!”: Illinois State Fair announces theme for 2024

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) – The Illinois State Fair is next month, and this year's theme is “It's Showtime!” State Fair officials said this mantra will capture the spirit of the fair from day one.

“It's Showtime!” is designed to embody the State Fair's many impressive events, from livestock shows to grandstand performances. It will also influence the Twilight Parade, which begins at 5:30 p.m. on August 8, the fair's opening day.

“The Illinois State Fair Twilight Parade is a Springfield tradition,” said Jerry Costello II, director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. “This year's theme, 'It's Showtime!' has so many meanings, given the wide variety of activities offered during the fair. We invite everyone to come along and find their favorite.”

The Twilight Fair will feature marching bands, muscle cars, and everything in between. Participants can register for the parade through July 8.

“There is so much to experience, and it all starts with the legendary Twilight Parade,” said Rebecca Clark, State Fair Director. “Families are invited to line the streets of the fairgrounds, grab their favorite fairground food, and experience this time-honored tradition. Every year the Illinois State Fair gets bigger and better, and we can't wait for you to experience it all.”

Later in the evening, the Monsters of Destruction will start in the arena at 7:30 p.m. To avoid parade traffic, visitors are advised to enter through Gate 6 and use the parking spaces in the infield. The pit party begins at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets for opening day on August 8 are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and free for children under 12. All rides are $3 all day and open at noon. The day's “Double the Fun” promotion allows visitors who pay for parking at the fairgrounds to exchange their parking pass for free parking any day between August 13 and 15.

The Illinois State Fair will be held in Springfield from August 8-18. For tickets and more information, visit statefair.illinois.gov. For updates, follow us on Facebook or Instagram.
