Peter “Pat” Schiavone, Poland, Ohio Obituary

POLAND, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Peter “Pat” Schiavone, 95, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in Poland, Ohio.

He was born on August 18, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late Leonard and Philomena DeFalco Schiavone.

Peter, affectionately called Pat by those close to him, was a man of many talents and passions.

He excelled in his career of over 30 years at the Playtex Company, where he garnered national recognition as the Top Salesman for three consecutive years.

Prior to his professional endeavors, Peter served his country with honor in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. His dedication led him to Baffin Island in the Arctic Ocean, where he served as a Staff Sergeant before returning to the Youngstown community in 1954.

Education played an important role in Peter’s life. He graduated from The Rayen School, in the Class of 1946, where he served as class president and later was in charge of organizing their class reunions. Pat pursued a higher education at Kent State University, earning his bachelor’s degree in history.

Beyond academics and work, Peter found joy in various hobbies including savoring good food, appreciating classical music and opera performances, delving into history and embarking on adventures traveling with his wife Beverly to Italy and throughout the United States.

One of Peter’s greatest joys was his family. He shared a beautiful journey and recently celebrated 73 years with his wife, the former Beverly Dean, whom he married on June 27, 1951. Together they raised their children – two daughters, Deborah (Charles “Chuck”) Hnat and Elida Schiavone, all from Poland; their son, Atty Leonard (Gina) Schiavone from Youngstown and later, their granddaughter, whom they helped raise, Tara (Steve) Kish, from Campbell.

Pat was humbled by the nickname, “The Chief,” that Tara affectionately gave him.

In addition to his immediate family members mentioned above, Peter is survived by his sister, Lenore Stair of Portage, Michigan; six nieces and nephews and several cousins, all of whom will remember him fondly for his kindness, wisdom and unwavering love.

Peter’s legacy as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather will endure through the memories shared by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Pat’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful care provided by the staff at Poland Village Assisted Living and Akeso Hospice, including Kailen, Betsy, Jackie, Rebecca and Visiting Angels, Lynne.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, beginning at 11:15 a.m.
