Big Y's has opened a new store in Middletown, Connecticut.

The store is located at 850 S. Main St. and is the second of three new locations opening in the state this year.

The market features an on-site bakery with hand-decorated cakes and baked specialties, a full-service butcher and a seafood department with six deliveries of fresh seafood per week. The kitchen and deli department offer quick-to-prepare, easy Big Y meals to heat up, eat in or cook, including hand-formed pizza available by the slice or whole, freshly made sushi, made-to-order sandwiches and paninis featuring Boar's Head Premium meats and cheeses. A selection of Boar's Head products are also available sliced ​​or pre-packaged in the deli department.

The store also offers specialty items from local vendors, including old-fashioned ice cream and specialty cheeses from Arethusa Farm, seasoned chicken wings from Bear, Italian specialties from Liuzzi, frankfurters and meat products and Lamberti sausages from Hummel Bros., chips from Deep River, apples and pies from Lyman Orchards, traditional Italian products from Gina Marie Bakery and artisan breads from Chabaso Bakery.

The company began construction on the building in April 2023. The building will offer new green features such as green appliances including energy-efficient refrigerated counters, a store-wide generator and electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot. These and other recent store designs are part of the company's broader strategy to modernize its retail spaces to provide a more pleasant shopping experience for both customers and employees.

Doors opened on June 20th. Grand opening festivities began Thursday and included giveaways, deals and food sampling. New myBigY members receive 500 myBigY rewards points just for signing up. MyBigY members who use their Big Y membership will receive discounts on their grocery purchases every day.

This is the second store to open in the state this year. The new location in Brookfield, Connecticut, opened its doors in May. New locations in Westport, Connecticut, and Uxbridge, Massachusetts, are also underway, according to the retailer. These locations will bring Big Y's total number of supermarkets to 77.
