Start of the California State Fair: Tickets, opening hours, events

The California State Fair takes place from July 12 to 28.

CALIFORNIA, USA – The California State Fair begins Friday in Sacramento at the Cal Expo.

Visitors can enter the fair through three main entrances: the main gate at Exposition Boulevard and Heritage Way, the green gate directly west of the main gate, and the blue gate at Exposition Boulevard and Challenge Way.

This year's state fair will feature cooling tents, fans and misters in the table areas, and air conditioning units in the Cal Expo buildings.

The California State Fair runs July 12-28. Here's what you need to know before you visit.

Tickets

Tickets can be purchased HERE. Prices are listed below.

  • Children up to 4 years: free
  • Children 5 to 12 years: 10 USD
  • Adult/General Admission: $16
  • Seniors 62 years and older: 12 USD

Hours

Opening hours of the main gate and the blue gate

  • Monday – Thursday: 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Friday – Sunday: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: Opens at 2pm
  • Tuesday: Opens at 11am
  • Saturday & Sunday: Opens at 11am

Baggage regulations

Cal Expo has a clear bag policy. Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and no larger than 12″ x 12″ x 2″. A 1-gallon clear plastic bag or small clutch is acceptable. Acceptable bags can be found HERE.

Offers

Every fair Tuesday, guests of all ages pay just $2 per ride.

Taste of the Fair takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each vendor offers one item for $4.

Every Friday of the fair, seniors ages 62 and older pay only $10 admission.

Concerts

The Toyota Concert Series will feature several artists performing at the State Fair. Reserved tickets start at $25. Reserved seating does not include admission to the State Fair and a fair ticket is required to attend.

Admission to the concerts is free, but the principle of “first come, first served” applies and the free seating area is limited to the first 700 guests, according to the trade fair.
