A fire department in the northern region of the DOF remains staffed – Alaska wildfire information

This is a report on fires in the northern Division of Alaska Forestry & Fire Protection protected areas, generally north of the Alaska Range. This includes the Fairbanks, Delta Junction, and Tok DOF prevention areas.

No new fires were reported in the northern region of the DOF on Wednesday. An easterly flow brought rain to the southeastern interior on Wednesday, where the Tok and Delta areas of the DOF missed most of the recent precipitation. Rain will continue on Thursday, with rainfall amounts of about 60 to 120 millimeters expected throughout the day. Temperatures will rise on Friday and Saturday. Chinook winds will increase over the weekend as gusty winds develop over the Alaska Range pass.

As fire danger decreases, all fire permit suspensions have been lifted statewide. This allows residents with a valid fire permit to burn small debris, use fire barrels, and conduct small turf burns. For more information on the DOF fire permit program and current suspensions, visit

On Thursday, only one fire department is on duty in the northern region of the DOF.

Gold King Creek Fire (#276) – 46 miles south of Fairbanks in a limited operations area estimated at 6,002 acres. 28 personnel are assigned. A helicopter conducted shoveling operations on the northern edge of the fire Wednesday. It also conducted a reconnaissance of the incident with recently assigned personnel. The Chugachmiut Yukon crew and unmanned aircraft system (UAS/drone) module remain assigned to the incident. The primary objective remains structure protection for the Gold King cabin community and containment of the fire west of Gold King Creek. A temporary no-fly zone is in effect over the Gold King Creek Fire to ensure the safe operation of firefighting aircraft. Pilots should check here before flying into the area.
