Orlando woman caught with ammunition abroad escapes prison sentence

The Orlando woman, who has been stuck in the Turks and Caicos Islands since her arrest in May, avoided jail time and instead received a suspended sentence of 23 weeks and a $1,500 fine. Grier told WESH 2 that despite the suspended sentence, she plans to come home today. Grier, 45, pleaded guilty to illegal possession of ammunition after security at an airport in the Turks and Caicos Islands found two bullets in her luggage. Grier was traveling for Mother's Day weekend and said she was unaware there was ammunition in her bag. She added that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in Orlando did not see the bullets when they searched her carry-on luggage before she left. “I've never been in trouble or arrested before,” Grier told WESH 2 during a video call from her Airbnb. “I never had any intention of disrespecting anyone else's country.” Grier said she is a store manager in Orlando and has a gun for her protection. The bag she used for the trip was the same bag she normally hides her gun in, Grier said. Since her arrest, Grier has been stuck nearly 800 miles from her family and home. The 45-year-old said she misses her family and is in pain because her hematologist ran out of her special medication. The penalty for traveling to the Turks and Caicos with a firearm, ammunition or other weapons was a possible 12-year prison sentence.
